Starting a blog had always been a huge desire but I needed the time to feel right, and now it does. So i decided that my first post will be a journey down memory lane.

Project “IKINI” (is a Yoruba word – it mean first project) and this is the result of a long personal development process. It was created in 2016 for Rebekah Christie a fashion brand i founded. It started with me seeking to have a defined solid grip on the mess of a modern life. Now, I understood that I am not the only woman feeling pressurized and constrained, dogged even when we are tired and expected to perform even when we have cold feet.

I had so many questions to answer; questions about style, aesthetics, textures, and even the story being this collection. So i finally arrived at staying contemporary African- chic, functional with an African twist. It’s almost impossible to be solely African or solely contemporary in this time and age. So I realize this was my own interpretation and contribution to help contemporary African women understand the new era they now find themselves in.
The pieces in project IKINI are in African patterned linen, silk and chiffon. The colors are warm and elegant, not flashy, so you look great without having to scream for attention. These apparels fit comfortably and practical - for example the wrap dress drapes freely from the waist line providing such comfort yet elegant.

The Yanga Traveler set is a drawn string short with a placket shirt, loose and free for a traveler, while the silk blouse depicts the work of a creative: in this case a make-up artist. All the pieces can give you a casual look or a formal look.
Last but not least, this project has been entirely produced in Lagos Nigeria. We support the made in Nigeria campaign. The process of a first collection is full of so much uncertainty and it has given me the courage to venture into much more….
What do you think of project “IKINI”? Which of these designs do you love and why?
